Resident Champion Steve!
Congratulations To Superman Steve - Watford Almshouses
Added on 15/11/23
Congratulations to our “home-grown” Superman Steve Robbins, resident at the Bedford, Morison and Cordery Almshouses, who fought off a large number of challengers nationwide to take the crown as “Great Britain Natural Bodybuilding Champion” at the national final held in Coventry this Summer, 2023.

Steve was presented with an impressive trophy (only a body builder would have the strength to lift it!) which can be seen positioned between two other trophies in the photograph. By winning the competition Steve has an automatic place in the upcoming European and World Championships although he has yet to decide whether to take up the option. We are all very proud of him!

Born in Bedford in 1953 on the day before the late Queen’s Coronation, Steve’s passion for fitness started during his schooldays when he proved to be a good athlete and sportsman. His physical prowess was further boosted when he joined the Army in the 1970s and underwent punishing training which included parachute training. Steve served with the Royal Army Ordnance Corps and saw service in Cyprus supporting United Nations Peacekeeping Force following the Turkish invasion of the island in July 1974..

Steve trains at the local gym in Watford four days each week for two to three hours at a time and has no intention of slowing down. If any of our Watford Almshouses residents can’t unscrew the lid on a jar, they know who to ask!
