Bridging the Digital Divide: Our Digital Inclusion Project
Added on 22/09/24

In today's digital age, access to technology has become essential for staying connected, informed, and engaged. Unfortunately, digital exclusion remains a significant issue, with millions of people unable to access or use online products and services.

Our Digital Inclusion Project with W3RT

To address this challenge, Watford & Three Rivers Trust (W3RT) launched the "Staying Connected" Digital Inclusion project. Funded by the generous contributions of Sir Captain Tom Moore, this initiative aims to bridge the digital divide by focusing on four key areas:

  • Access to Equipment: Providing devices like laptops, tablets, and smartphones to those in need
  • Access to Connectivity: Ensuring reliable internet access for all
  • Addressing Fear: Offering support and training to overcome anxieties related to technology
  • Building Digital Skills: Providing personalized training and guidance on using digital tools effectively.

How Can You Benefit?

If you or someone you know is struggling with digital exclusion, this project can help. It offers a range of services, including:

  • Device Provision: Access to affordable or free devices
  • Internet Connectivity: Assistance with obtaining internet access
  • One-to-One Training: Personalised guidance on using digital tools like mobile devices or apps
  • Support and Encouragement: Guidance and support to overcome any challenges or fears.

Identifying Resident Training Needs
At our August 2024 Resident Coffee Morning, Trustee Hulya introduced the exciting possibility of partnering with W3RT for digital training sessions. The response from our residents was overwhelmingly positive, with a strong interest in enhancing their digital skills. During the coffee morning, residents expressed a keen desire to learn about the following areas:

  • Online Shopping: Navigating e-commerce platforms and making secure purchases.
  • Healthcare Access: Booking doctor's appointments online and using the NHS app.
  • Online Banking Security: Protecting personal information and preventing fraud.

Upcoming Training Session
Based on these insights, we will be organising a group training session with W3RT. Stay tuned for more information on the date and time.
